101 Things to Do in 1001 Days Redux

Back in November of 2007, I started a 101 Things to Do in 1001 Days.  It really helped me to focus my efforts to my desires. Well, this past year has been really rough in more than one way, and I've decided to start over. Instead of having lots of items where I have to count how many times I do something. I've restructured the list so I just mark off an item when I reach a benchmark. I hope this is easier to keep track of while still focusing my efforts to my desires.  Oh the places we will go ...

Bicycle Accident - Blog Hiatus

I was in a bicycle accident on March 9th, and I'm preparing for my second surgery. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to blog until I heal from the second, and hopefully last surgery.

I'm thinking of starting over on the 101 Things to Do in 1001 days. Anyone have any suggestions on what I should put on the list?

101 Things

I would like to encourage all of you to take the time for the 101 Things in a 1001 Days. It has really helped me to change the way I spend my time so that it matches my priorities. Of course, my house isn't as clean, but I'm feeling a lot less frustrated. I'm making time for playing games and reading books to the kids as well as exercise and creative endeavors. It's like these things finally made it on my to do list. In fact, I think the 101 Things is like taking your goals and putting them in a to do list form. It has been great motivation for me.

101 Things to Do in 1001 Days

I've been thinking a lot about goals and plans. Then, I saw this on the CassKnits! blog, and I thought it was such a great idea.

The original idea is from this website.

The Mission:

Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.

The Criteria:
Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on my part).

Why 1001 Days?
Many people have created lists in the past - frequently simple goals such as New Year's resolutions. The key to beating procrastination is to set a deadline that is realistic. 1001 Days (about 2.75 years) is a better period of time than a year, because it allows you several seasons to complete the tasks, which is better for organizing and timing some tasks such as overseas trips or outdoor activities.

Some common goal setting tips:
1. Be decisive. Know exactly what you want, why you want it, and how you plan to achieve it.
2. Stay Focussed. Any goal requires sustained focus from beginning to end. Constantly evaluate your progress.
3. Welcome Failure. Frequently, very little is learned from a venture that did not experience failure in some form. Failure presents the opportunity to learn and makes the success more worthy.
4. Write down your goals. It clarifies your thinking and reinforces your commitment.
5. Keep your goals in sight. Review them frequently, and ensure that they are always at the forefront of your thinking.

So here goes ...
