Busy, Busy, Agh my aching head....
The reason that I haven't had a creative bone in my body to contribute to this blog lately is that I have a dirty kitchen with a dirty kitchen floor, piles and piles of either dirty laundry or clean laundry in baskets waiting to be put away, Christmas cards that I really want to finish, errands to run, gifts to buy and mail, and the list could continue for several more pages. N has been working later and later. I think I've talked to him for a combined total of 30 minutes this whole week. The kids are driving me to distraction. I'm processing bad memories and feel like I'm moving through thick mud: physically, emotionally and mentally. Ah yes, I've had a migraine almost every day. So I'm back to working on a couple of things a day and trying not to sweat the many, many small things that are left undone. If I have to change 1 more poopy diaper today, I might just let out a scream so loud that y'all will be able to hear me in Toledo.
Sorry for the rant ....

Compassion International
http://www.compassion.com/default.htm
I received the Introduction packet today. Our new child is from Ethiopia and he is 6 years old. He is an area that has been devastated by HIV/AIDS, and part of our support will go to help fight the AIDS epidemic. As I was reading the literature, my heart just went out to this people who have so little to fight poverty and disease. Our support also helps feed and educate this boy and his family. I hope that education will help to stabilize this area of the world although a large part of the poverty is due to years of draught. It is a hard part of the world to be born in. Thank you Jesus that you can overcome even this.

Lickety-Split Meals
We had Kickin' Chicken with Fries. The meal included baking chicken in the oven with a quick salsa sauce on top, and at the same time you bake oven fries with skins, and put green beans in the microwave (I sprinkled Adobo on top.) Serve everything with apple sauce. The preparation took me 15 minutes tops, and everyone loved it.

Psalm 148
1 Praise the LORD. [a]
Praise the LORD from the heavens,
praise him in the heights above.
2 Praise him, all his angels,
praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
3 Praise him, sun and moon,
praise him, all you shining stars.
4 Praise him, you highest heavens
and you waters above the skies.
5 Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for he commanded and they were created.
6 He set them in place for ever and ever;
he gave a decree that will never pass away.
7 Praise the LORD from the earth,
you great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
8 lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding,
9 you mountains and all hills,
fruit trees and all cedars,
10 wild animals and all cattle,
small creatures and flying birds,
11 kings of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth,
12 young men and maidens,
old men and children.
13 Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;
his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
14 He has raised up for his people a horn, [b]
the praise of all his saints,
of Israel, the people close to his heart.
Praise the LORD.
Today's message at Cedar Ridge Community Church was on how beautiful God's Creation is and how we are a part of it. Let's all take a minute to soak in the beautiful changes of the leaves. That really doesn't do the message justice. It was so much more than that. Brian McLaren discussed the movie The March of the Penquins, and how we could learn from God's creation: the loyalty, sacrifice, trust, love, and perserverance. PRAISE THE LORD for the wonders He has created.

Observations about Baltimore - Sales People
Stiff & Sore
I went to the physical trainer yesterday, and my past sessions we've gone slow because my anxiety causes me to have a low tolerance for being sore. The last time we did my legs, I couldn't tell that I'd worked out so I asked her to up it a notch. I did ask for it, but I am having a difficult time moving around. I can definitely feel my legs. I hurt in places that I didn't know I had muscle. I used to work with a girl that always said "If you can feel it, then they can see it." So my legs must just be gorgeous now :-P
The kids have outgrown their winter gear. So I am making C a hat to match the scarf that I made him a month ago. I thought I could finish it in a night, but I think it will take me a week now. G wants a pink one, of course. As soon as I complete something, I have 2 or 3 more things that I want to make. Sometimes, knitting is just more important than laundry:-) I read this knitting blog by The Yarn Harlot, and evidently this is a common problem among knitters.
What's for dinner? - Marinated London Broil from the crockpot, and Honey-roasted Sweet potatoes.

Getting Settled
Well, I must be getting settled. I actually worked out yesterday and today. That is definitely a step in the right direction. I have been organizing and knitting and cooking.I organized the kids books and toys in the basement. It still isn't very kid-friendly. I need to think about what I can do to make it easier for the kids to get to their toys and put them away. Any tips on how to do that? Or how to make my laundry room more productive? Maybe I should send a picture to Martha :-)
I have been knitting and knitting. I made 2 scarves for Nate, and I am finishing a pair of socks.
What else can I do? Oh, today is Grace's field trip to a farm, complete with a hay ride. That should be lots of fun.
Tomorrow, I will battle with the state of Maryland for driver's license and license plates and tags. Thank goodness, my brother is coming to babysit. Thanks David.
BTW, I didn't do all of this yesterday. It has been a work in progress over the past week or so.
What's for dinner? - I made Pumpkin Ginger Soup and homemade Honey Whole Wheat Oat Bran Bread with Ground Flax Seeds. It was so yummy. I love making soup this time of year!!!

Staying Motivated to Exercise
Thursday, March 2, 2006
Ten Steps to a Better Body & a Better Life
1. Exercise aerobically, 5 to 7 days each week, preferably in the morning. This will raise your metabolism all day. The best aerobic exercise is running, walking, aerobic dance, or stair climbing (not stair stepping).
2. Exercise in the zone (at a level 7 or 8 intensity - you can talk but you don't want to).
3. Exercise for 20 to 60 minutes each exercise session (Warm up, stretch, warm up, exercise 20-60 minutes, cool down, stretch)
4. Eat a low-fat, balanced diet each day (Commit to continually improving the way you eat.)
5. Eat 3 meals & 2 snacks each day (Eating boosts your metabolism & eating your calories earlier in the day gives you time to use them as energy instead of storing them as fat.)
6. Limit or Eliminate Alcohol. (Alcohol has almost as many calories as pure fat and it can slow down your metabolism for up to 3 days after you drink it.)
7. Stop eating 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. (That little craving for food late at night is your body dipping into its fat stores. You have a choice: let it dip into your fat stores or sacrifice your weight loss for the day.)
8. Drink 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. (Water aids digestion & metabolism and it makes all of the body's systems work better.)
9. Have at least 2 servings of fruit & 3 servings of vegetables each day.
10. Renew your commitment to healthy living each day (Daily Renewal) by keeping a journal or some other way of reminding yourself of why you are choosing to be healthy. It helps the process if you dwell on the present, living in the moment, and allowing yourself to experience daily joy & pain. By always focusing on the past or the future, you numb yourself to the present and don't fully LIVE.
Bob Greene recommends that you do the minimum of each of the 10 steps before you increase any one step.
Would anyone like to join me in this quest to be healthier?

Trans Fatty Acids
I can cut back to once a week, but I don't think I can just eliminate them right now. I'm not ready.
